Finding the perfect concealed carry handgun is all about balance. You need a tool that is small enough to hide under a light shirt, yet comfortable enough to shoot accurately during a high-stress encounter. The Glock 43X was specifically designed to bridge this gap, merging a slim profile with a full-finger grip.
But is it the right choice for your defensive layout? In this guide, we will break down the essential Glock 43X pros and cons so you can make an informed, tactical decision.
The Pros of the Glock 43X
The Glock 43X has rapidly become one of the most popular everyday carry (EDC) firearms on the market. Here is what makes this Slimline 9mm pistol stand out from the competition.
1. Perfect Grip Ergonomics
Unlike traditional subcompacts that leave your pinky finger dangling, the Glock 43X features a longer, compact-size grip. This design allows you to get a full, secure purchase on the firearm. A solid grip gives you significantly better recoil control, leading to faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
2. Razor-Thin Profile
While the grip is longer, the slide and frame remain incredibly thin—measuring just 0.87 inches in width. This slim design allows the pistol to sit flat against your body, drastically reducing “printing” (showing the outline of the gun through clothing) when using an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster.
3. Renowned Glock Reliability
Like all platforms in the Glock lineup, the 43X is built to perform in the harshest conditions. It utilizes the legendary Safe Action System and a match-grade Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB). You can trust this firearm to cycle flawlessly across thousands of rounds without failure.
The Cons of the Glock 43X
No firearm is perfect for every shooter. To give you a balanced view, here are the drawbacks you should consider before making a purchase.
1. Limited Factory Capacity
Out of the box, the standard single-stack magazine holds 10 rounds. While 10+1 capacity is respectable for a slim pistol, many competitor firearms of a similar size now offer 11 to 13 rounds right from the factory.
Note: While reliable aftermarket flush-fit 15-round steel magazines exist, using them requires swapping out your factory polymer magazine catch for a steel one to prevent wear.
2. Minimal Factory Upgrades
The standard Glock 43X comes with basic plastic “ball and cup” sights, which most defensive shooters immediately replace with high-visibility night sights. Furthermore, if you want to mount a tactical light or a red dot optic, you must specifically buy the upgraded Glock 43X MOS variant, as the standard base model lacks an accessory rail and an optic cut.
3. Snappier Recoil Than Full-Sized Pistols
Because the Glock 43X is lightweight and thin, it inherently has more felt recoil than a heavier, full-sized duty gun like the Glock 19. If you are a beginner shooter, managing the “snappy” muzzle flip will require dedicated training and proper grip technique.

The Verdict: Is the Glock 43X Right for You?
When weighing the Glock 43X pros and cons, the conclusion is clear: this pistol excels as a dedicated, comfortable carry gun. It completely eliminates the discomfort of carrying a bulky firearm while giving you the shootability of a much larger handgun.
If you prioritize deep concealability, absolute mechanical reliability, and a full-finger grip, the Glock 43X is tough to beat. However, if you want maximum accessory compatibility out of the box, make sure to look for the MOS version.
